Response History

January 5, 2009 · NTSB Correspondence · National Association of State Aviation Officials

Prior to its July 1, 2003, letter, the Safety Board had sent NASAO a followup letter on March 12, 2001. During 2002, Board staff contacted NASAO both by e-mail and telephone, requesting information on any actions the organization had planned, initiated, or completed in response to these recommendations. In August 2008, Board staff again contacted NASAO for information regarding its actions in response to these recommendations. To date, NASAO has still not responded to these recommendations or to our many requests for followup. In view of NASAO’s continued lack of response, Safety Recommendations A-99-74 through -78 are classified CLOSED UNACCEPTABLE ACTION/ NO RESPONSE RECEIVED.

July 1, 2003 · NTSB Correspondence · National Association of State Aviation Officials

The Safety Board sent a followup letter to NASAO on March 12, 2001, requesting information on any activities it had planned, initiated, or completed in response to these recommendations. NASAO has not responded to these recommendations, except with an e-mail acknowledgement of its receipt of the Board's letter in September 2002. On several occasions in October 2002, Safety Board staff inquired via e-mail about efforts being made to address these safety recommendations. The Board believes that these are important recommendations that could provide significant safety enhancements to State aviation programs. A Board Member will be in contact to set up a meeting in the near future.

Additionally, a Board Member will be available to visit and address your annual meeting in September 2003.

The Board would appreciate learning of any activities that the NASAO has planned, initiated, or completed in response to these recommendations. If there are no such activities, please inform the Board so that we may close the recommendations. Copies of the recommendation letters to the NASAO are enclosed. Please address your reply to Ms. Carol Carmody, Acting Chairman, and refer to Safety Recommendations A-92-111, A-92-112, and A-99-74 through -78 in your response.
