ACN 2362088What the Reporter Described
Report 1 | Narrative: On Day 0; a friend and I were camping and doing photography and drone videography for fun. We had heard of this waterfall at Location X and as we utilized the Air Control app; we saw that we could fly there as long as we did not take off from the road; so we took off from the overlook. Two days later; I was sitting looking at the waterfall footage I had gotten and there was a no trespassing sign at the location that many people would often try to climb down from the observational overlook to the bottom of the falls. I started to do more research.
Though the airspace was class G and the air control app for drone airspace used said it was fine to fly in; I soon realized based on some research that flight is prohibited without a special use permit. There were no signs saying you cannot fly drones there and having used the Air Control app I thought I was okay as it only showed launching from the road would be an issue. We did not launch from the road. In the future; I will never allow myself to fly in an area without doing more research beyond what I see on the Air Control app for airspace but rather do more research if it's a popular recreational area that may have more rules and regulations.
