ACN 2361118What the Reporter Described
Report 1 | Narrative: Aircraft X was on the HYDRR 1 arrival. We were cleared to descend via the HYDRR 1 arrival. When we started the descent out of 37000 the PIC put the seat belt sign on. ATC gave us a speed restriction. My right hand was on the yoke. We were behind an airliner on the same arrival. We were at 25000 at Scole and the airplane abruptly banked about 30 degrees to the left. The autopilot kicked off and I lost a couple of hundred feet. I leveled the wings first. There was a jolt when the airplane banked. I tried to gently climb back to altitude so I did not over stress the wings. We told approach that we had a wake turbulence encounter.
We were assigned 210 knots before Scole. After we were back at altitude we continued the arrival. We had a second wake turbulence encounter later in the arrival after transitioning to the local altimiter setting. Now I'm trying to remember the exact altitude of the second wake turbulence encounter I think it was around 15000. It was not as severe as the first one. After the second wake encounter we were told to slow to 180. The PIC looked at his MFD (Multi-function Flight Display) and saw that there was no wind. One passenger was not seated during the first encounter.Suggestions: I will review the unusual attitude recoveries. I should have requested a slower speed.
We should have checked on the passengers but we were both concerned with flying the plane.
Report 1 | Callback: Reporter stated that although the spacing looked good; the winds were calm and probably led to perfect conditions for a wake encounter.
Report 1 | Synopsis: Citation Excel Captain reported that an inflight upset occurred when they encountered wake turbulence on descent into PHX in trail of a commercial jet.
