ACN 2072458What the Reporter Described
Report 1 | Narrative: On approach into ZZZZ the approach controller cleared us off the arrival and direct to a fix on the approach. Because it was VFR we accepted the change and continued on to the fix ZZZZZ. As we approached the fix the cleared us to 8300 feet and asked us to join the approach. This put us on an angle that put the terrain located just north of the ZZZZZ intersection in play. The aircraft gave us a terrain call and the PIC adjusted course to avoid the terrain. Cause: Accepting a heading instead of flying the arrival. Suggestions: When flying internationally I would fly the full arrival; even if in VFR conditions.
Report 1 | Synopsis: A319 pilot reported receiving a terrain alert when they accepted an ATC vector that took them in the direction of terrain. Flight crew corrected heading to avoid terrain.
